A Special Message from the Secretariat

Cursillo 2020 Postponement

From the Secretariat...

So many of us have been or are being affected by the COVID-19 virus pandemic. Our lives have been disrupted beyond anything we could have ever imagined. We are asked to be apart from loved ones, friends and co-workers, brothers and sisters in the church and more. We agree to do so because we understand the danger this virus presents not only to ourselves, but to those around us and to the community at large. As Christians we also understand we must respect authority and comply with government regulations and advisories.

We have heard many differing possible outcomes over the course of the next few months. Some of them might still require additional time of social distancing and perhaps even if the restrictions begin to loosen up, they will probably be gradual and not a return to gatherings as usual.

Your Secretariat discussed at our last meeting several factors that may affect our ability to conduct a proper Cursillo weekend in August as planned. These include but are not limited to:

  • Proximity of cocineros in the kitchen
  • Groupings
  • Proximity to each other during mealtimes
  • Proximity to each other in the dormitories
  • Average age of the team and possibly the candidates being in the high-risk zone
  • Sponsor and team member financial concerns due to the economic impact
  • Safety of Cursillo House

For these reasons the Secretariat, with heavy hearts, has decided to postpone the weekend until August 2021. We do so out of love and compassion for each and every one of you and in particular for those who are the most vulnerable. Our Rector and Rectora, Mike Rager and Ann Fox, have been advised and they have been asked to remain as Rector and Rectora for the 2021 weekends.

We believe what we are experiencing presents us with a unique opportunity to respond to this crisis with love, compassion and support. Who of your family, friends or neighbors needs food, supplies or just someone to talk to? This is where the church shines at its best. Remember, we may be suffering but God suffered also. We can confront this pandemic thru His mercy and grace.

Hold tight to each other. None of us should face this crisis alone. We want to encourage you to establish Cursillo groups using the internet, a basic Zoom license costs you nothing and you can still see and pray with each other. We will have a video message available to you next week explaining what we intend to accomplish this year. Please be on the lookout for it.

May God bless His people and cover us with His protection.

prayer to the holy spirit

What is the Secretariat?

The Secretariat is the administrative organizational arm of Cursillo. Each Cursillo movement has its own Secretariat. The responsibility of the Secretariat is to ensure that the Cursillo movement is alive and well while following the spiritual direction of the church (the body of Christ) and its Head, Jesus.
